Container gardening is not a new concept by any means and the benefits of gardening using containers far outweighs the conventional gardening methods. Using containers to grow your vegetable garden in help retain much needed moisture. Containers also are much easier to take care of and keep the soil tilled. This helps the vegetable plants stay strong and produce plants that are more yielding.

Container gardening: Small Garden, Large Yields

The containers allow you to produce a larger garden in a smaller area and take less water to maintain proper moisture in the soil for less watering. Over watering, cause the roots of the plants to weaken or rot. The area is also much less spread out so this is less work on you to care for the garden.

These containers can be made with a rich black soil and mixing the proper amount of fertilizers into the soil. The containers are, made out of some landscaping posts or timbers. The containers can also be, constructed from large sturdy boards such as 2 X 6 or 2 X 12 boards. Simply make some large box like containers out of these boards and then fill them with the prepared soil.

Next, you will decide what to plant in each of the containers and the position of the containers to the suns light. Each container should have one or two types of vegetables that will grow well together. An example: you would not want to put corn and turnips in the same container, as the corn would block the sun from the turnips. If you do grow these together, you must put the turnips the closest to the suns rays for proper lighting.

Make sure you have enough containers and enough of the soil mixture to provide your family enough food for the summer time as well as some extra to freeze or preserve on into the winter months. Many fresh vegetables do well and can keep for months frozen.

Choose the foods that do the best in the container gardens like green beans, okra, corn, squash, and anything else you or you family may like. Herbs can also be, grown in the ends or around the edges of the containers as well as onions and garlic.

You will be amazed at the fact your litter container garden will yield you more produce than the other conventional gardens ever did. You will also discover that gardening using the containers is easy to maintain.
